UN Commission holds its 50th session | Śviatłana Łakotka | 03.03.2006 50th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women opened in New York, which will host the representatives of governments, international organisations under the aegis of UN, as well as NGO delegates. They will review the activity on gender equality advancement and outline further ways of fighting for the rights of women globally. “Code of Conduct” for Domestic Animals Protection | Hanna Žarabcova | 03.03.2006 The British are worldwide renowned as ardent pet–keepers. And the passion seems to be only growing. Even fox coursing was prohibited by the Parliament. The maltreaters of pets also won’t remain unpunished – the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will see to it. New order of rent calculation for state-owned plots | Hanna Žarabcova | 02.03.2006 On March 1 a new presidential edict № 74 of February, 7 2006 “On the improvement of the order of rent calculation for state-owned plots” came into force. In accordance with this document the basis for fixing yearly rents for plots is their cadastral cost. Preferential crediting for overhauling and capital repairs | Hanna Žarabcova | 02.03.2006 On March, 18 2006 the presidential edict № 75 of February, 7 2006 “On granting the residents of towns and villages having the population of less then 20 thousand the right to preferential credits for capital repairs and overhauling of living quarters, building networks and utility rooms” came into force. In accordance with the new normative act a certain group of citizens is entitled to the credits for the aims of edict № 75. The Law “On Volunteering” | Hanna Žarabcova | 01.03.2006 On February, 23 2006 Ukrainian Supreme Rada adopted the law “On volunteering” in order to define the organisational and legal principles of volunteering. The right to receive information in Belarus | Uładzisłaŭ Biełavusaŭ | 26.02.2006 On February 24 the Law Center for Media Protection, a sub-division of the Belarusian Association of Journalists, presented the draft of the law “On the right to receive information”. Invited were the representatives of regional media, NGOs and prominent lawyers. “Praŭnik” delegate also attended the event. European Parliament Probes into CIA Case | Alaksandra Rahažynskaja | 25.02.2006 February, 24 saw the first session of the standing European Parliament committee, which investigates the alleged cases of CIA unlawfully keeping prisoners in Europe.
