Belarus Proposes UN Draft Resolution on Fighting Human Trafficking / Alaksandra Rahažynskaja | Alaksandra Rahažynskaja

On October, 11 Belarus officially submitted for consideration by the Third Committee of UN General Assembly a draft resolution on enhancing coordination and cooperation in the sphere of fighting slavery and human trafficking.

 

The novelty of the draft is that it contains a provision on the responsibility of those who benefit from the victims of human trafficking. It also provides for the measures aimed at eliminating the demand for human slaves, fighting the traders and aiding those who fall their victims.

 

The resolution draft calls for UN member states to provide the necessary resources to police force, public prosecution and social security offices for fighting the phenomenon of human trafficking and to enhance cooperation between the states of slaves’ origin, transit and destination, especially between the law enforcement bodies of these countries.

 

Besides, it is suggested to promote physical and psychological rehabilitation and social reintegration of the victims.

 

The draft foresees the creation of a working group on human trafficking at the UN mission in Vienna (Austria) embracing the interested states, corresponding institutions, funds, UN programmes as well as Interpol. UN member states are to inform the coordination body
