France and Gabon are the first countries to levy additional taxes on airplane tickets on July, 1 2007 to receive funds for financing aid projects to poor countries. The amount of the duty in France will vary from 1 to 40 euros depending on the length of the flight and the ticket class. For Gabon the sum is 1 to 4 euros.
French authorities hope to collect up to 200 million euros of air ticket tax yearly. 90% of the income will be allocated for purchasing medicine for the victims of AIDS in poor countries. The rest of 10% will be transferred to the account of the Britain-founded international financial fund on enhancing economic development and health protection in underdeveloped countries.
An additional air ticket tax is soon to be introduced in the United KingdomGreat, Luxembourg, Norway, Cyprus, Jordan, Brazil, Nicaragua, Chile, Mauritania, DRC and Ivory Coast.
