According to BelaPAN, thanks to another initiative of public association “Belarusian Language Society” customs posts will be furnished with forms of passenger tax statements in the Belarusian language.
It is also reported that the “Belarusian Language Society” received a letter from the State Customs Committee, where the latter pledges to “undertakes the necessary measures” on the issue.
So far it is not clear what are the terms for the Committee to carry out the obligation. At the same time in accordance with article 129 of the Customs Code of the Republic of Belarus customs paper work, including filling in the documents for customs aims, is effected in Russian and Belarusian. Thus, nothing prevents the citizens from filling in the forms printed in Russian in the Belarusian language.
Last year at the presentation of the first printed issue of “Praŭnik” Mr. Trusaŭ recounted a story of his accidental initiation of the word “mytnia” (Belarusian for “customs”) into the language of Belarusian office work. Will the “Belarusian Language Society” under the present conditions be able to promote the Belarusian language in customs paper work?
