On July, 3 2006 a law came into force in Singapore exacting a ban on smoking in all the cafes and restaurants.
A violation of the law will entail a fine of 700$. The representatives of the National Agency for Environmental Protection will effect permanent control over the execution of the provisions of the law.
The new law erects another barrier for smoking in Singapore. A month ago a decision was passed to invigorate an anti-tobacco campaign by changing the design of cigarette packs sold in the country. In accordance with this decision from August on every pack of cigarettes sold in Singapore will contain a photo of possible harmful effects of smoking derived from medical archives. Snapshots are to cover a half of pack’s face and a half of its back while the brand of the manufacturer will be placed at the bottom.
Singapore authorities consider the possibility of totally banning smoking in the country.
