Abolishing Deputies’ Privileges? | Hanna Žarabcova

On June, 16 the deputies of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine registered a law draft “On introducing changes into the law “On the status of a people’s deputy of Ukraine”, in accordance with which a number of deputies’ privileges are meant to be abolished.

Here is a list of privileges to be abolished:

  • the right of a people’s deputy to receive housing for permanent residence or pecuniary compensation to purchase such. At the same time, in order to secure social rights of deputies, they are still entitled to temporary official housing;
  • the right to free travel by any means of transport within the country;
  • the right to park their cars free of charge in the territory of Ukraine;
  • the right to free sanatorium-and-spa treatment;
  • the right to receive higher education at the cost of state budget.

The initiators of the law draft intend to save budget funds reserved for the catering for the activity of the Supreme Rada.
