Promoting Science? | Hanna Žarabcova

On April, 4 2006 the President of the Republic of Belarus signed an edict ¹202 “On exempting the articles aimed at promoting scientific, research and innovative activity from imports duties and VAT”.

The adopted document foresees exempting from imports duties and VAT all the equipment and devices used for research activities; materials and component units aimed at scientific maintenance of presidential, state economic and social projects, state programmes of fundamental and applied research, as well as republican, regional and intergovernmental research projects.

In order to receive the exemption from imports duties and VAT one needs to hold the appropriate decision of the republican body of public management, other governmental organizations, subordinate to the governments of the Republic of Belarus or the National Academy of Science. The decision in question is passed by the abovementioned bodies in the presence of a foreign trade contract and the documents endorsing the assignment of the equipment, devices, materials and component parts for research ends and for scientific maintenance of the appropriate governmental projects.

The edict ¹ 202 ratifies the Regulations on the order of issuing a decision on exempting equipment, devices, materials and component parts from imports duties and VAT.
