Import rates for high-tech equipment | Hanna Žarabcova

On April, 4 2006 the President of the Republic of Belarus signed an edict ¹ 189 “On the customs duty rate for high-tech equipment, imported to the Republic of Belarus”. The edict is targeted at creating auspicious conditions for creating manufacturing, technical re-equipment and modernizing current manufacturing.

According to the adopted edict the customs rate of 0% for a period of 9 months is fixed for the articles, corresponding in aggregate to the following requirements:

  1. The articles pertain to the list, ratified by the current edict;
  2. The articles are imported to the Republic of Belarus for private use of the persons importing them.

If the abovementioned articles are used in breach of the edict the customs duty is imposed at the rates fixed by the legislation, regardless of the imports customs rate, determined by the edict ¹189 of April, 4 2006.

The Committee of State Control is to secure the proper use of the imported goods.

The Committee of State Control of the republic of Belarus bears the responsibility to summarize the practice of introducing the rate of imports customs rate, fixed in the edict ¹189 and to inform the President of the Republic of Belarus about the efficiency of introducing a zero imports customs rate at the end of 2006.

The edict ¹189 comes into force on the day of its signing.
