Belarus set to draft the final WTO accession documents | Alaksandra Rahažynskaja

On March, 29 a seminar “On some aspects of rights to intellectual property and WTO Treaty in the trade aspects of rights to intellectual property”. It was declared at the seminar that Belarus set to draft the final WTO accession documents.   

The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus with the help of World Intellectual Property Organization and the National Centre for Intellectual Property.

It was stressed at the seminar that the range of issues touching upon securing intellectual property rights is up to now the most advanced sphere with regard to our country’s WTO commitments. According to BELTA, deputy head of MFA chief department for foreign economic activity coordination Anton Kudasaŭ noted that “Belarusian legislation in the sphere of intellectual property is one of the most up-to-date in the world and has successfully passed the expert examination of serious international organizations”.

Besides, it was stated that this event were to be the first in a series of seminars where final WTO accession documents will be discussed and worked out. Mr. Kudasaŭ opines that “the work on the documents won’t take much time and we will enter WTO soon. This fact shows that security standards granted to our new technologies’ developers, inventors, and programmers are extremely advanced and will be utilized abroad”.

It should be reminded that WTO is a global international trade organization founded in 1995, which deals with the rules of international trade. WTO legal basis is constituted by the agreements, adopted, signed and ratified by the majority of states involved in international trade. The main WTO objective is to provide aid to the manufacturers of goods and those rendering services, to the exporters and importers.
