December, 12 to 16 2005 the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus hosted negotiations on the draft of Belarus-Syria Treaty on Legal Aid in civil and criminal law spheres aimed at facilitating bilateral cooperation.
The Treaty on Legal Aid in civil and criminal law spheres is targeted at establishing legal basis for regulating mutual relationship between the citizens of Belarus and Syria and protecting their rights of property and interests in both countries.
The provisions of the Treaty both grant the citizens and juridical persons the right to freely refer to the institution of justice in either country and provide for the recognition and fulfilment of court decisions on civil and partially criminal cases. Besides, the Treaty makes provisions for cooperation on criminal cases via criminal persecution, extradition the accused for bringing to court or executing the sentence in the state of their citizenship.
