“I do not take bribes!” | Hanna Žarabcova

Each country fights bribery in its law-enforcing bodies in its own way. An interesting solution of this problem was introduced in Malaysia.

As a part of a whole-national campaign to fight bribery in law-enforcing bodies, the Malaysian policemen are to attach to their uniform plastic badges reading “I do not take bribes”. Wearing them is obligatory. Non-compliance with the rule entails chastisement.

One more incentive for the policemen to be incorrupt is the wide spread occurrence of posters targeted at boosting policemen’s morale. The inscriptions read: “An earnest policeman is above corruption”, “Do not give or take bribes”, “Corruption is punishable”.

Employ mass media is a part of the authorities’ campaign. The latter are recommended to transmit to the audience three helplines for citizens to inform about the fact of corruption in law-enforcing bodies.
