Review of the article. Full version available in the Belarusian part of the journal:
According to statistics, drugs traffic is one of the most profitable businesses. This type of crime has a stable tendency of growth. One of the most evident illustrations of the urgency of this issue in Belarus is the 54.9 times increase in the number of crimes committed by drug addicts or persons being in the state of drug intoxication within the last decennial. The author of this article analyzes both Belarusian criminal legislature on this point and international legal practice. It is especially emphasised that there is no unified definition of drugs which makes it possible to regard this notion within three approaches: legal, medical and social. The author dwells on the widest-spread drugs as well as on psychotropic substances and makes a conclusion that in order to improve the activities of the law machinery, aimed at struggling with illegal traffic of drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors, it is necessary to study scientific research more thoroughly.
